How We Research
Sheryna exists to give Singapore residents clear, accurate, practical answers about their homes. This page explains where our information comes from, how our guides are produced, and the standards we hold ourselves to.
Where our information comes from
We build our guides on primary sources first. For anything involving rules, eligibility, schemes or official figures, we work from the responsible Singapore authority rather than second-hand summaries:
- Housing & property — the Housing & Development Board (HDB), the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA).
- Tax & duties — the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) for stamp duties and property tax.
- Financing & CPF — the Central Provident Fund Board (CPF) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for loan rules.
- Home, utilities & the environment — the National Environment Agency (NEA), SP Group, and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) where household help is involved.
Alongside official sources, we use current market pricing and established best practice to answer the “how much” and “how to” questions that official pages don’t cover.
How our guides are produced
Every guide is researched, written and edited by the Sheryna Editorial Team. We draw on the sources above, use modern research and drafting tools to work efficiently, and check each guide against primary sources before it is published. Our aim is a guide that a knowledgeable friend would give you — accurate, specific to Singapore, and free of filler.
On figures, prices and currency
Rules and numbers in Singapore change — at Budget, at policy reviews, and with the market. Where a specific figure matters (a grant amount, a stamp-duty rate, an income ceiling, an interest rate), we explain how it works and direct you to the official source for the current number rather than stating a figure that may be out of date. Costs are given as realistic ranges, clearly marked as approximate, not quotes.
Our independence
Sheryna is an independent publisher. We do not accept payment for coverage, for a favourable review, or for placement in a guide. No company can buy its way into our recommendations. Where we may earn a referral fee (when you request quotes through our forms) or a commission (through some links), we disclose it plainly and it never influences our guidance or what we choose to cover.
Accuracy and corrections
We work hard to get things right, and we correct things when we don’t. If you spot an error — an outdated rule, a wrong figure, a broken step — please tell us through our Contact page. We read every report and update the guide where needed.
Keeping guides current
Home topics don’t stand still, so neither do our guides. We revisit and update our content as rules change and as our coverage deepens, and we prioritise updates to the guides the most people rely on. A guide reflects our best understanding at the time you read it — but for anything with legal or financial consequences, always confirm the current details with the relevant Singapore authority before you act.
